Department Vision

Maths is Alive in FMS(P) - Every Fairsian a passionate learner and a determined problem solver

Key Programmes and Highlights

To achieve our vision, hands-on activities and activity-based lessons are structured into the curriculum. Reflections are encouraged through journal writing and note-taking. During Maths Alive which is conducted during pupils' recesses, pupils play games related to Mathematics and experience the subject through fun and play. Mathematics is also incorporated into Learning Journeys for our pupils so that they experience Mathematics in an enjoyable and authentic manner.

The use of ICT is also encouraged in the curriculum. Besides the mconline learning portal, the interactive whiteboard and other IT softwares like Microsoft Excel are also used in the teaching of Mathematics.

Since 2009, we have celebrated the World Maths Day in March every year. Pupils take part in fun and exciting interactive Maths games and play online mental arithmetic games where they compete against peers from other schools in Singapore and children from other countries in real time.

Maths Olympiad Training is provided for pupils who have shown a special aptitude in Mathematics and these pupils represent the school in national competitions such as the Singapore Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools organised by Hwa Chong Institution.

Facilities/Infrastructure

Our Maths Room, known as Studio M, is well-equipped with manipulatives as well as an interactive whiteboard to support teachers and pupils in teaching and learning. The room is designed to be conducive for group work and activity-based lessons. The newly refurbished Maths playground and Maths Studio also serve to make the learning environment for Mathematics more inviting. In addition, the newly decorated Maths stairways provide pupils with interesting facts on ancient number systems, famous mathematicians amongst other beautiful depictions of Mathematics to engage pupils in their free time.
